GDR BloodlineBreeding prerequisites and training conditions in the former GDR were very different from today's situation. Only HD free German Shepherd dogs were allowed for breeding. Breeding requirements and judgements were much more severe in the GDR. At the age of 12 months every German Shepherd puppy was checked for health condition, stamina, and physique. If any genetic faults were noticed, the puppy was not allowed for breeding. If an owner of a German Shepherd puppy escaped this test, no pedigree papers were issued for his dog. So, without the pedigree this dog was not allowed for breeding as well. Unfortunately, we only have another two photos with typical German Shepherd Schutzhund dogs of GDR bloodlines:
Also Schutzhund training was different in the GDR. There still was the attack with muzzle or the attack of helpers on a bicycle. This was not easy for the helper. He had to drop himself off the bisycle without hurting himself or the dog.
